In the context of the recent murder of a Tiktoker, the National Emergency Response Team of the Pakistan computer (cert) has issued a notice, noting that women continue to face persistent threats such as images based on images and digital harassment in Pakistan.
The notice, entitled safe, diligent and responsible for social networks, has painted a marked image of the panorama of digital threats in Pakistan, highlighting the risks that affect millions of children, in particular children, women and elderly users, who are increasingly vulnerable to exploitation, erroneous information, emotional manipulation and online abuse.
Act has pointed out that these threats are aggravated by inadequate reports and low digital literacy channels, while setting a worrying increase in cyber incidents that affect children, including exposure to explicit content and online preparation.
According to the notice, platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok, WhatsApp and Facebook dominate the digital space, especially among young people, which provide ways for expression, education and activism.
“However, these platforms are also fertile land for misinformation campaigns, phishing scams, supplantation, harassment and psychological manipulation driven by algorithms.”
A young Tiktoker, healthy Yousuf, was tragically killed in shots in the Federal Capital on June 2.
The suspect, Umar Hayat, 22, also creator of social networks content, supposedly killed healthy after she rejected her friendship offer. Sana Yousuf, 17, had more than one million followers on social networks,
The notice said that the manipulation of users’ emotions through provocative content and the constant comparison promoted by selected online lives has also contributed to increase stress and mental health problems.
