PESHAWAR:
As the world marks International Women’s Day, women working in law enforcement agencies in Pakistan are steadily carving out a space for themselves in fields that were once dominated by men. Among them is Sub-Inspector Laila Manan of the Peshawar Zone of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), who believes that dedication, courage and professionalism transcend gender.
Speaking about his police career, Manan described wearing the uniform as an honor and a responsibility. He said that today women officers are demonstrating their capabilities in complex and demanding tasks, from investigations to field operations and public service.
Women have proven that they can fulfill all the duties expected of them in law enforcement, he said, noting that with the right commitment and support, women can stand shoulder to shoulder with their male colleagues in protecting society and enforcing the law.

Manan highlighted that equal opportunities for women within institutions is crucial to building a progressive and balanced society. According to her, when women have equal opportunities to learn, lead and grow, they bring not only professionalism but also empathy and strong decision-making to their roles.
The sub-inspector stated that women are not only caregivers of families but also strong pillars of society. She added that women demonstrate their resilience and determination in any profession but what they need is confidence, encouragement and equal opportunities.
Over the past decade, the presence of women in Pakistan’s law enforcement and investigative agencies has gradually increased. In institutions like the FIA, women officers are now actively involved in the fight against complex crimes such as corruption, money laundering and human trafficking, areas that require patience, analytical skills and determination.
Manan noted that the FIA has been making efforts to create a more inclusive environment, encouraging women to pursue careers in the organisation. The FIA values diversity and provides opportunities for women to grow as researchers, officials and leaders, she said.

Encouraging young women across Pakistan to consider joining the agency and contribute to national development, Manan said a career in the FIA offers not only professional growth but also the opportunity to serve society and strengthen the rule of law.
Women must believe in their abilities and step forward with confidence, she said. Paying tribute to Pakistani women in various professions, Manan said their perseverance and sacrifices continue to inspire the nation.
Furthermore, she added that greater participation of women in law enforcement strengthens the system by foregrounding empathy, resilience and professionalism. For women looking to enter public service, Manan had a simple message: Confidence, determination and equal opportunity can open doors to any field, including those previously considered out of reach.
