The controversy hit the World Women’s Series of the University (WCWS) during an elimination game between UCLA and Tennessee on Sunday.
The first base of the Bruins, Megan Grant, reached the plate with two outs and a corridor in the first place and crushed a launch of the Karlyn Pickens volunteer pitcher to tie the game, or so they thought.

Grant rounded the third place and went home to celebrate with his teammates. He didn’t seem to touch the dish and a teammate needed to bring her back to make sure he did.
Tennessee challenged the race and the referees checked him to see if he touched the Home dish and if he was “assisted” to make sure he definitely contacted him. The university softball rules specify that a corridor cannot be physically assisted by a teammate to touch the dish.
“After the review, the call is confirmed in the field and the race will write down,” the referee announced. “The corridor lost the dish and was assisted. However, that work is not revisable, according to Appendix G.”
Appendix G in the NCAA softball rules book determines what is reviewable.

It was a great break for the Bruins, since they could extend the game.
Tennessee arrived at the bottom of the ninth and pushed a race through the plate to win the game, 5-4. The Tay Mealer box play connected to the Taylor Pannelll house to win it.
The volunteers now move to the next round and UCLA goes home. Tennessee faces Texas in the semifinals on Monday. They need to defeat the Lonhorns twice to move to the championship.
Sofia Mujica and Alexis Ramírez de Ucla hit home runs for the Bruins in the defeat.
