World Aquatics Championships 2025: Yu Zidi makes its debut at 12

Chinese swimmer Yu Zidi made his debut in the Aquatics World Championship in Singapore on Sunday while competing in the individual popurri of 200 meters. She is only 12 years old.

YU is scheduled to compete in the individual mixture of 400 meters and the 200 -meter butterfly.

It ended with a time of 2 minutes, 11.90 seconds in 200 IM, advancing to the semifinals. His time was the fastest 15th of the 16 qualifiers.

Yu, who was born in October 2012, began swimming at the age of six.

“Summer was too hot, and my father took me to the aquatic park,” he told China’s Xinhua news agency, through Sydney Morning Herald. “I enjoyed the freshness of the water and spent a lot of time in different small pools for children. One day, a coach approached me and asked me if I wanted to swim faster.

“My age is currently an advantage. I hope to grow and develop more strength in the future. I really want to experience world class competition.”

World Aquatics court is 14 years old, but younger swimmers can compete if their times exceed a qualification standard. Yu almost turned the China Olympic team for the 2024 Paris Games, but it was a few short seconds.

If Yu picks up a medal at any of the events, she would be the youngest swimmer since Inge Sorensen of Denmark won a medal a month after celebrating 12 years at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.
