- US retailer Walmart may have revealed two upcoming GameCube titles for Nintendo Switch Online
- Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 were seen in a promotional image
- Nintendo hasn’t offered official details yet, so take this with a grain of salt for now.
It appears that major American retailer Walmart may have leaked a pair of previously unannounced GameCube titles for Nintendo Switch Online. And if it’s true, I’d be delighted, as they are definitely among the best games on the system.
Spotted by VGC, an image advertising the Nintendo Switch Online service appeared on the retailer’s website. The image shows a variety of gaming boxarts that are available through the subscription service and its numerous retro libraries.
However, there are two outliers in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2, None of which are available through the GameCube Classics library have even been announced for the service.
With no news from Nintendo, we currently can’t say if this promotional image is real or just a mockup made by Walmart. The image shows ESRB iconography and legal text at the bottom right, which could give it some credibility.
I’ve recently argued that I think NSO’s current GameCube line doesn’t show the console at its best, and these two games are precisely what the library could use more of. Pikmin 2 It is a wonderful evolution of the innovative original, and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is, well, it’s in the running for best game in the series, if you ask me.
The GameCube Classics library hasn’t been completely without surprises. Wario World was a chosen choice and was not part of the initial announcement list. We hope we have more like this in the future, including these two fantastic titles that may (or may not) arrive soon.
