Karachi:
Pakistan is the home of the majestic wildlife, including common and snow leopards, brown and black bears, Indian Pangolines, fresh water and marine turtles, Dolphins of the Indo River and various species of resident and migratory birds.
But these wildlife species face serious threats for wildlife crimes, which include illegal trade, poaching, hunting and abuse.
An application has been launched to inform the crimes of wildlife and coordinate significant actions by government departments and law enforcement agencies.
The World Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) said in its press release issued on the occasion of World Wildlife Day 2025. He said that this is the first time that this request is launched to face the crimes facing wildlife in Pakistan.
The application has been developed under the Indian Future Pangolin project for the Pangolin crisis fund with the support of the Pangolin. A link to the Google Drive application has been developed to inform crimes and will soon be available on Google Play Store.
The theme for World Wildlife Day 2025, ‘Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing on people and planets “, focuses on innovative technologies and improving collaboration to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of existing financial resources.
It highlights the urgent need to strengthen investment in conservation efforts, ensuring a resistant and sustainable future for humanity and the natural world.
Advanced technologies, such as software applications, artificial intelligence, camera traps and satellite data, can help address wildlife threats, monitor conservation performance and promote effective strategies to protect threatened wildlife. This application will inform and collect data on wildlife crimes, allowing relevant departments and agencies to take measures against wildlife criminals.
The general director of WWF-Pakistan, Hammad Naqi Khan, commented that addressing wildlife crimes requires an inclusive approach that involves government departments, agencies for the application of the law, civil society and local communities.
Addressing such crimes could be improved by building capacity, promoting collaboration, raising awareness and creating enabling conditions that integrate the experience of AI specialists, conservation experts and members of local communities. Khan emphasized the essential role of wildlife in promoting ecosystem and human well -being.
Referring to the application, Khan said that he would create a platform for wildlife, experts in conservation and the public to interact and share valuable information about illegal wildlife activities “to protect wildlife, we need to work together and take immediate measures to combat the crime of wildlife, since it is one of the key reasons for the decline of the species at local levels at local levels, national and international levels. added.
