X fell again: here’s how its latest outage played out

Good news for fans of Grok and freshly cooked hot takes: X appears to be working well again on both mobile and desktop.

Downdetector’s chart has plummeted from a major high of over 18,500 reports in the US and 3,100 in the UK, to rock-bottom numbers again.

That was a pretty big problem, but fortunately only one problem this time, and there don’t seem to be any major repercussions on other services, apart from WeTransfer, which just saw a spike in reports.

I think we can consider this outage a closed case and hopefully that will be the case over the weekend so we can continue our fatalistic analysis.

What is causing the problems?

There are spikes in reported issues elsewhere, but despite a small increase in Cloudflare reports on Downdetector, this time there’s no suggestion it’s related to the cloud giant: Cloudflare’s status page has a much healthier green “all operating systems” label today.

Naturally, there has also been a sharp increase in reported problems with Grok along with

The trend is definitely positive, but I’ll keep an eye out for any aftershocks…

Both the app and the website affected

According to Downdetector and our own experience, X is having issues on both the mobile app and the website.

Interestingly, the web version allows us to post but doesn’t show us a feed, while the mobile app shows the usual “posts are not loading at this time” message.

However, there are already positive signs that it is returning for some, so the signs are good that this is a much shorter outage than earlier this week.

Another bad day for X?

Just three days after the previous X outage, we are now seeing a huge increase in reports about Downdetector.

In the US, there are currently 8,300 reports (which is close to the initial peaks of the outage earlier this week), while in the UK there are also drops on both web and mobile for many with over 4,000 reports.

It is still unclear what caused this second blackout, but a picture will soon emerge; Hopefully, this one will be a little more short-lived…
