- In an interview with GamesBeat, Patrick Söderlund, CEO of Embark Studios, revealed that ‘aggression-based matchmaking’ has recently been added to Arc Raiders.
- The system uses your propensity for PvP or PvE interactions to place you with like-minded players.
- This means that if you are a more aggressive player and prone to attacking others, you will be placed in more PvP-focused rooms.
Arch Raiders Matchmaking has been a mystery since its release, with many wondering if a player’s tendency towards PvP action would match them up with like-minded players when matching. This is indeed the case, as revealed by Patrick Söderlund, CEO of Embark Studios during a presentation of the game and an interview with GamesBeat.
During the game, GamesBeat’s Dean Takahashi addresses the matchmaking systems in Arch Raidersreferring to mating based on aggression. Söderlund responds by confirming that “it is exactly like that.”
He goes on to say that your propensity towards PvE and PvP is taken into account when deciding what type of players to place you in a raid with.
“Now we also look at how prone you are to PvP or PvE.” Later in the discussion, it is revealed that this is not an exact science, as there are many factors at play when matching players in lobbies. Still, this is the first confirmation we have that his actions within the raids of Arch Raiders alter their future locations. If you’re someone who gets into every fight they come across, you’ll encounter other people who will likely do the same.
This particular point is raised around 10 minutes into the video, although another question related to how squads are combined using this system is raised later on. This is apparently a bit more complicated, when it comes to the hypothetical scenario where a team contains some PvP-focused players and some complete pacifists.
“I’ve actually thought about the same thing, I actually don’t know.” Söderlund responds.
Even if Arch Raiders Matchmaking isn’t as simple as PvP or PvE, it’s great to know that if you spend a lot of your time working with others, completing tasks, and minding your own business, you’re less likely to encounter players who will shoot on sight.
Arch Raiders It is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The Winter Update is currently available and will run until January 13, 2026. We don’t know what’s next, but we do know that Arch Raiders The developers plan to keep the game updated in the long term.
