Bono has been an ubiquitous presence during most of my adult life. I was arriving in the world when U2’s break-out album, Wararrived, and for J from 1987Oshua treeBono and main guitarist Edge felt inevitable. In other words, I saw the U2 leader as a less and more contemporary enigma.
We are both old men now, licking our psychic wounds and (in the case of bond) revealing them enigmatically the world in, first, the well received memories of 2022, Surrender: 40 songs, a story, And now as an unusual spoken and musical trip, Bonus: Rendary Stories – The first immersive video film was released in Vision Pro. It is a cheerful, funny, sad, sometimes frustrating guided tour often intense through Bono’s life and career.
However, above all, it is a bonus story (Paul Hewson) and “give” his deeply Irish father, Bob Hewson.
Apple gave me a preview of the film, which I saw almost completely through the Mixed Reality Headphones of Apple $ 3,499. There were, due to the way Apple insisted that it accessed the video, some technical problems (occasional freezing), but it was generally an immersive experience already moving.
Filmed almost completely in black and white marked, the film is a musical performance of a single man and occasional musical. The director Andrew Dominik uses the expansive canvas of almost 360 degrees of vision pro to literally paint scenes around bond as the singer particularly tells Irish stories about, for example, his mother died suddenly when he was only 14 years old, and his father never spoke the name of his wife again.
The scenario is replaced, with just over a few chairs, a table and a false painting of Guinness. But Dominik uses the immersive native vision pro capabilities to beautify the stage and images.
Using the drawing of the 3D line, Bono is, even while performing or speaking in front of a live audience, surrounded by points by letters, members of the audience drawn by hand or boxes and papers that seem to reach heaven on you.
This is not a concert or a presentation of U2. At first, Bono admits that it is “almost transgressive”, being on stage without his bandmates. Instead, Bono is backed by the Jacknife Lee Ensemble, which presents an electronic drum kit and a carnation singer/backup. That doesn’t sound like much, but it works.
In fact, Bono, now 65, has a good voice, which is clear, noisy and agile. This becomes less surprising when he learns that his father was a talented tenor. At the end of the film, Bono is part of his own operatic song, clearly a tribute to his late father.
There are some musical performances and even a few moments in the Vision Pro experience in which you feel as if you were in nose with the iconic main singer (it is disconcerting), but most of the song is done in support of the stories, or rather, the stories explain the origins of the songs like the songs like Pride, With or without youand Sunday, Domingo Blood.
There is a decent amount of humor, especially a story about Luciano Pavarotti, but the most important thing is that you get the history of origin of the bond musical interests and the formation of the band, which coincided with meeting his wife of more than 40 years, Ali Hewson.
The documentary begins a bit slowly and perhaps melodematically, with the 2016 bonus cardiac surgery, and although I am deeply grateful to Bono, I was concerned that all the Doc of approximately 90 minutes could be a little work. Fortunately, that heartbreaking story was just the preamble, and soon, Bono was weaving an entertaining history of arrogance, struggles and epiphanies.
However, it was frustrating to listen to the story I will continue and not get a complete performance of the song. I will admit that I wanted more than the U2 discography, although the new bond interpretations, such as the almost a cappella Sunday, Domingo Blood, They were impressive.
In the end, this Bonus: Rendering Stories It goes too fast, and ends just when you feel that you finally met the real bonus, a short singer with great stories and, I think, an even bigger heart. It is not yet an enigma, but for the first time in 40 years, I feel that I just wanted to go out with him.
As for Vision Pro, he did a brilliant job. 90 minutes is a long time to use mixed reality headphones (in the end 10% of the battery was reduced), so be sure to have a comfortable adjustment. Mine is good (I use the double loop band), although I took some breaks.
You can look Bonus: Rendering Stories As of today, in the Vision Pro (for the special immersive experience) or in Apple TV+, where I suspect it will enjoy it equally.
