- Nintendo is bringing the virtual child, his worst console, for some reason
- Virtual boys games will arrive at Nintendo Switch online and require a dedicated accessory
- It looks like a recreation of the virtual child, with a slot for the Nintendo Switch 2
The last Nintendo Direct has officially concluded, and I can only assume that the Japanese Games giant has lost the plot.
Of course, it was absolutely full of incredible revelations, ranging from a Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Compilation to a new Fire emblem Game, but an advertisement has left me scratching my head.
The company is officially bringing the virtual child, an old rarity widely considered one of the worst consoles never launched.
An early attempt of virtual reality, came out in 1995 and was a gigantic critical and commercial failure. Looking like a strange pair of lobster glasses, the headphones were uncomfortable to wear, greatly expensive and could only play red and black titles.
He sold less than 800,000 units and was suspended in less than a year, so I cannot imagine what he owned Nintendo to bring him from the dead.
As confirmed in the presentation, Nintendo Switch online + Expansion Pack subscribers can play virtual select games from February 17, 2026.
Play them will require a dedicated accessory, designed after the infamous system. It seems an almost exact recreation, but presents a new slot in which the Nintendo Switch 2 can insert, where it will apparently act as the console screen.
A separate cardboard version of the accessory will also be offered. Although there is still no official word about prices, it seems safe to assume that the paper variant will be much cheaper.
There will be a large total of 14 games on offer, which is a large part of its library when you consider that the system only obtained a total of 22 games worldwide.
