- Airpods Pro 2 audition test now available in Australia
- Convert Apple headphones into hearing aids
- Its Airpods Pro 2 must be automatically updated to provide the new function
When Apple announced a new hearing test for Airpods Pro 2 in its Glowtime event in September 2024, it was perhaps one of the largest ads of the whole night. Now, finally, the hearing test function, which can convert the Airpods Pro 2 into headphones and prove its hearing capacity, has arrived in Australia.
The firmware update is now available, after the function received the green tick of the administration of Australia therapeutic goods (TGA).
The Airpods Pro 2 could already withstand an ear tip test to determine how well they adjusted in their ears, and could let him know when his listening volume was realistically too strong. But now they can support the technology of clinical degree hearing aids that allows them to help people with auditory problems who listen to speech and the background sound more clearly.
Together with the hearing aid technology, the AirPods Pro 2 now admits two other characteristics related to the audition: a five -minute auditory test to help him better understand his hearing health and an auditory protection mode that promises to eliminate the strong sounds around him when he uses the headphones.
Australian users must take the hearing test first before they can use the Airpods Pro 2 as headphones. The test involves listening to beeps and other sound tones in both the left and right ear.
Listen and listen
I tried the test this morning when news about the update in Australia broke. However, you should make sure it is in an incredibly quiet environment, since after testing in my left ear, my iPhone told me that the background noise was too strong to generate a result.
However, I was surprised how difficult the test was. The beeps at the beginning of the test were clearly audible, but upon entering, I was not listening much, so I planned to try it again at a later time to see what is the result of my test.
An American colleague has made his father complete the hearing test, and revealed that the results are grouped into categories, namely, little or no loss, mild loss, moderate loss, severe loss and deep loss. The Airpods Pro 2 can only be used as headphones if the result is a loss of mild to moderate.
Apple says that technology will “enable personalized dynamic settings so that users have the sounds around them and increased in real time.”
The results of the hearing tests will be stored in the health application and can resume the test as long as you want to draw how your audition changes over time (if you do). The hearing protection mode could be useful in environments as concerts, to help reduce the strong volume and allow you to enjoy without damaging your ears.
The next time you connect your Airpods Pro 2 to your iPhone, you must receive an emerging notification informing you that the update has been applied. All you need to do is enter the AirPods configuration inside your iPhone and you will see the option to execute the hearing test.
