- Google Keep reminders head to Google Tasks
- Google Tasks sync across multiple Google apps
- You will see the change coming in the coming weeks.
Google has been busy moving different parts of its apps and, having previously announced the change last year, is now putting all Google Keep reminders into Google Tasks, in a move that will likely confuse power users of the note-taking app.
As 9to5Google reports, the idea is to make life simpler – with Google Tasks as a central hub for all your reminders in Google Keep, Gemini, Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Docs. But it means Google Keep enthusiasts will now have to jump between apps to remember what they’re supposed to do.
You’ll still be able to create reminders in Google Keep by tapping the little bell icon in the top right corner of a note. These reminders will also remain visible in the note, with the chosen date and time attached.
However, Google Tasks will now handle all notifications, instead of Google Keep; The reminder alert will not be sent unless you have Google Tasks or Google Calendar installed or open somewhere. Try to stay back.
No locations
What’s more, location reminders for Google Keep will disappear as part of the transition—that means you’ll no longer be able to have the app remind you to pick up milk when you stop by the grocery store. You can’t do this in Google Tasks either.
If you delete a task in Google Calendar or Google Tasks, the reminder will disappear from Google Keep, but the note to which the reminders were attached will remain. From Google Keep you can delete the note, the reminder (the task) or both at the same time.
As you can see, it’s not particularly easy to manage and is likely to be a headache for serious Google Keep users who already have a large number of notes and reminders set up. These reminders will now move to Google Tasks for everyone over the next few weeks.
Google Tasks is still a pretty basic experience, after leaving Gmail as a standalone experience in 2018. At least it’s well integrated into all of Google’s key apps and services, including, as of now, Google Keep.
