The latest update to Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta smart glasses is rolling out, and version 21 adds two powerful audio tools to the specs that I can’t wait to try.
The first is one of the first advances in Meta Connect 2025: Conversation Focus.
Today, it’s coming to people in the early access program (limited to users in the US and Canada), and the feature is designed to help you hear people better while chatting in a noisy space.
Using this feature, Meta promises that your glasses’ microphones can pick up what the person you’re chatting with is saying, isolate their words from the noise of a DJ, the clatter of cutlery on plates in a busy restaurant, or the bustle of commuters on the train (among others), and then play their voice through your glasses’ speakers.
Just keep in mind that as early access, Conversation Focus probably won’t run perfectly right out of the box.
Put a soundtrack to your vision
The other audio update will reach a wider range of users, although you’ll need Spotify to take advantage of it.
If you have the music streaming service connected to your Meta account, you can use your glasses’ look and ask feature to soundtrack what you can see, whether that’s playing music from an album cover you’ve seen in the wild or just wanting to listen to tracks that fit your current view.
Just say something like “Hey Meta, play a song that matches this view.” Spotify will then use its library and its knowledge of your musical tastes to soundtrack your life.
I use Apple Music instead of Spotify, but this feature tempts me to switch to the rival music streaming service. It looks like it could be a lot of fun to try.
