- One UI 8.5 could include a feature to address apps that send ads
- This tool would detect frequent offenders and put them into deep sleep.
- There could be both basic and smart versions of the tool.
One UI 8.5 could soon roll out to your Samsung Galaxy phone, and when it does, it could include a way to stop apps from bothering you with ads in your notifications.
We’d bet no one likes it when a notification they receive is nothing more than an ad, however, some apps are guilty of this, and a feature in One UI 8.5 could let you automatically put those apps into deep sleep.

Based on the included screenshots, it appears there will be two versions of this feature: a “basic blocking” option that will block apps that Samsung has already identified as sending frequent ads, and a “smart blocking” option that will analyze notifications on your phone to determine if they are ads and then block apps that send them frequently.
However, the description notes that the evaluation of notifications from this smart lock feature may not always be accurate.
In any case, by “blocked”, Samsung means that it will put the app into deep sleep, which will prevent it from sending notifications or running in the background. However, the app will remain on your device, so if you still want to interact with it, you can open it manually.
One of the many useful updates to One UI 8.5
So this sounds like a potentially useful feature, particularly if you’ve encountered apps that are guilty of this practice, and while we always take leaks with a pinch of salt, this comes from a trusted source and the screenshots look genuine, so it’s likely available.
This isn’t the only useful feature we’re likely to see in One UI 8.5, as previous leaks also point out. prioritized notifications, anti-theft tools, an improved camera app, and more.
As for when exactly we’ll get all of this, One UI 8.5 is expected to enter open beta in a matter of days, with the final version likely launching alongside the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, which leaks say could arrive between January and March.
