- YouTube has begun to mark the members of the Premium family plans that do not live in the same home as the account manager
- A handful of users reported that they received emails that said their accounts will be arrested, but it is not clear to which regions this applies.
- The shared repression of YouTube accounts joins a long line of transmission services that have carried out similar measures, and subscribers are not happy
Since the controversial repression of Netflix against the exchange of passwords, all the best transmission services have followed their example in some way, and now YouTube joins them marking certain members of the Premium family plan.
Similar to repressions in the location that detect password exchange, YouTube has begun to go to members of its Premium family plan who do not live in the same home as the accounts manager, which was first informed by the Android Police.
A family subscription of YouTube Premium costs $ 22.99/ £ 19.99/ AU $ 22.99 per month, allowing you and up to five family members to enjoy benefits such as visualization without advertising and YouTube music. Members have always been forced to live in the same home as the account manager, but YouTube has not been strict about it, despite performing electronic controls every 30 days.
Official warnings
Several users have received YouTube emails, saying that they have detected that they are using the Premium family in a different location from the account administrator. The email says “your family membership of YouTube Premium will stop”, and warn users who will lose premium access after 14 days, after which they will only have access to the content backed by ads.
This has raised many questions about the name of the plan, that frustrated users say that they should be changed to the ‘Home Plan’ to align with the official statement in YouTube terms and conditions: “All family members must have 13 years or more, have a Google account and reside in the same home as the family manager.”
Although the repression has not yet reached all members of the Premium family, and it is not clear in what countries are happening, there have been enough reports to suggest that YouTube is just beginning. If you are one of the lucky ones who has not yet received a YouTube warning, take this as your indication to make the most of the time you have left.
