- YouTube TV Viewers Reportedly See Longer, Unskippable Ads
- However, YouTube denies that these ads are being tested.
- More and more advertising appears on streaming services.
A new debate has arisen about ads on YouTube, specifically the 90-second non-skippable ads that appear in the YouTube TV app. Users complain that they have been featured, while YouTube insists that they should not be featured.
As 9to5Google reports, an official YouTube social media account posted that the platform “does not have a 90-second non-skippable ad format,” despite users taking to the web to express their frustration at seeing these ad units appear on their TVs.
This is “not something we are testing at this time,” the YouTube team’s post said, adding that “we are investigating this further.” You can see some of the user complaints collected (with photographic evidence) on Android Authority.

So there are no ads? They are very present, according to Reddit, where there are numerous reports of this happening. One sign says they’ve had four in a single day so far, while another confirms they “exist.”
The ad-apocalypse
YouTube says 90-second ads don’t exist. Are you seeing them? from r/youtube
While YouTube investigates this, it’s hard to know for sure what’s happening, but there seems to be no reason to doubt the multiple reports that are piling up from viewers about having to wait longer to watch ads and not being able to skip them.
Some users suggest that these could be cases where three 30-second ads are shown in a row, with no option to skip them, which would technically make YouTube and its users right, but at the moment it’s unclear what the details are.
What we do know is that YouTube hosts and offers an incredible amount of video content, and is increasing its efforts to try to cover the costs, whether through longer ads or pushing people to sign up for YouTube Premium.
However, it’s definitely not pleasant for viewers, who are seeing more and more ads across streaming services. Perhaps the last word (for now) should go to this Redditor: “It’s a joke because my attention span is too short for a 90-second ad.”
