- Look out for the new Play Something button
- Select a video recommended for you.
- Some users are seeing the feature on Android
There’s a ton to watch on YouTube (more than 500 hours of content are uploaded every minute, according to official statistics) and it looks like YouTube is testing a feature to help viewers who are a bit stuck on what to upload next. .
According to 9to5Google, you may soon see a play something A pop-up button appears while using the latest version of YouTube for Android. Tap the button and a selected video will start playing through the YouTube Shorts interface.
It’s unclear how YouTube chooses which video plays, but presumably your YouTube listening history and recommendations are involved somehow. Then, you will receive more videos once the first clip is over.
Although the feature uses Shorts’ vertical interface, it appears that it can also play regular YouTube videos. However, it’s not something that’s available to all users, as Android Police reports, so you might not see it.
too many options
This is actually something YouTube has been testing for a while, although the interface has been tweaked a bit along the way. Now it appears that at least a few more users are also seeing the feature, if not all of them.
And it’s a feature that makes sense, too: YouTube doesn’t want its users stuck on a browsing screen, not knowing what video to load next and spending more time scrolling than watching (or even switching to another app entirely).
While it may seem a little random that YouTube chooses something to watch, remember that the platform knows a lot about you and your preferences; It may even be better than you at choosing what to watch.
We’ll have to wait and see if this new idea rolls out to everyone, but YouTube has been rolling out tweaks and updates regularly recently, including skipping parts of videos and (for premium users) smart downloads for YouTube Shorts.
