Dave Dombrowski, president of Baseball Operations of the Philis, said there was not much information to give about Wheeler’s problem, but would be more thoroughly evaluated in Philadelphia. Paul Buchheit, the team’s main athletic coach, said Wheeler experienced “heaviness” in his arm and that doctors were called to adequately diagnose Wheeler.

It is not clear if the clot was in an artery or a vein.

Dr. Michael Jacobs, a retired team doctor who previously worked for Baltimore Orioles, explained to Pak Gazette Digital on Sunday that, regardless of where the clot is, it is a dangerous situation for Wheeler that should be treated immediately.

“The treatment of these becomes a real problem,” he said. “I have dealt with baseball players who have had this and, sometimes, when a small artery is pinch or coagulated, they actually get rid of the artery and its body is fine, they tied it.

“Sometimes, if it is your axillary artery, you can try to eliminate the clot basically by sending a device wired there and opening it as a stent would do in people who have heart disease.”

Jacobs said that if it is a veins problem, Wheeler could have the clot. However, Wheeler would probably need to make anticoagulants if it is successfully cleaned.

“The problem is that to try to return to where you want to be, No. 1, you must obtain effective anticoagulants for generally from 4 to 8 to 12 (weeks) to three months to keep the blood vessels open.

“So, if you are in the slopes of high test, we could certainly clarify anyone to play in that type of blood thin.”

The Philis have not yet said how long Wheeler will be. The team remembered Aaron Nola for Sunday’s game against Washington’s nationals.

Wheeler was an All-Star for the third time in his career this season. It has an effectiveness of 2.71 with 195 leaders in the league. He launched 95 releases against nationals on Friday in five tickets.
