ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday took serious note of the deteriorating law and order situation in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly in Skardu, where violent protests have caused widespread damage to public and private infrastructure and disrupted normal life.

He stated that peaceful protest is a constitutional right but must be exercised within the framework of the law, according to a press release from the Presidency.

The president strongly condemned the wanton destruction and harm to the public. He said such actions are illegal and fall within the scope of serious criminal conduct under applicable law.
