According to reports, Meta is looking to acquire the Rivas Chips startup in an agreement aimed at strengthening its internal semiconductor program and giving the company more control over its AI infrastructure and a greater independence of NVIDIA.

Although Meta already has its own chip project, target training and inference accelerator (Mtia), like all hyperscalers, still spends largely on the NVIDIA GPUs, a dependency that has become expensive as the company scale its ambitions of AI.
