The Chinese mountaineer dies while climbing K2

Khaplu:

A Chinese mountaineer died while descending the second highest peak in the world, with Pakistani rescuers waiting on Thursday that climatic conditions improve to recover their body.

Guan Jing was descending from the K2 summit on Tuesday night when he was hit by rock fall, the attached commissioner of the Shigar Arif Ahmad district told AFP.

“An army aviation team is ready for body recovery and is waiting for better climatic conditions,” he said.

According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, which monitors the local expeditions of Escalada, Guan is the fourth victim of the country’s summer climbing season.

Guan was among the 30 climbers who arrived at the K2 summit on Monday before starting his fatal descent.

“The incident occurred on the Abruzzi Spur route between camp I and the Advanced Base Camp, a section known by frequent rock falls,” said Alpine Club.

At 8,611 meters (28,251 feet), K2 on the Pakistan-China border is 238 meters from the Himalayan E Everest giant, but is considered more technically challenging.
