Four hikers drown in Hawke’s Bay in I-Day

Karachi:

Four bodies, including that of a minor, were taken from separate drowning incidents in Hawke’s Bay, Hub Dam and Hub River in the last two days, rescue officials said on Friday. According to the Edhi Foundation, Asad Nawab, 30, and Faizan, 26, drowned while swimming in Hub Dam on Thursday. Their bodies were recovered by the divers on Friday morning.

The relatives said the two were neighbors and had gone to swim together. Funeral prayers were offered after Friday’s prayers, followed by burial in the local cemetery. Both men married and Faizan was the father of a little daughter.

Rescue officials also recovered the body of Huzaifa, 12, who drowned in Hub River on Thursday. The family took the body without completing police procedures.

In another incident, two young people drowned in Manora Point near Hawke’s Bay while swimming at sea. On Friday night, the divers recovered the body of Waseem, 25, of Turtle Beach, near Hut no 105. However, the search for Zakir, 20, had to be suspended at night and will resume on Saturday.

The authorities said the victims were part of a group of five friends from Ranchore Line who had gone to Manora Point for a picnic. The lifeguards managed to rescue the other three: Kashif, Salem and Gulfam, after an strenuous effort.

The drowning of hikers on the city’s beaches is common because most of them do not know how to swim and enjoy splashes only in deep waters of the waist. However, they are swept by high tides and cannot swim on the ground.

Every year, the Karachi commissioner imposes the prohibition of swimming during the summers to avoid drowning incidents. However, people hurry on vacation beaches, throwing caution into the wind and risking their lives.
