
Lodhran: A man was killed and several others suffered serious injuries when at least four carriages of a passenger train derailed near the Lodhran train station on Sunday, according to the city’s assistant commissioner, Iram Shahzadi.
The attached commissioner of Lodhran, Dr. Lubna Nazir, said that the accident left at least 19 injured passengers, who were removed from damaged coaches and rushed to Bahawal Victoria hospital.
“In the hospital, a seriously injured passenger succumbed to his wounds,” he said, adding that two other passengers were still fighting for their lives.
The government official said that rescue teams evacuated other passengers trapped inside the carriages.
“The exact cause of the accident is still unknown,” according to the Lodhran DC.
The train was traveling from Peshawar to Karachi at the time of derailment, said the government official, adding that “traffic from up and down train traffic is now working normally.”
Last month, an explosion on the railroad road near Shikarpur caused three coaches of the Japhafar Express to be deranged, leaving an injured passenger and interrupting train operations in the area.
The impact of the explosion threw several coaches of the road, suspending rail operations on the affected route.
In June, five bogies of Jaffar Express jumped the rails after an explosion of the track near Jacobabad. The train was on the way to Peshawar to Quetta.
The explosion damaged the railway line, interrupting trains services in the area; However, no victims were reported, they added.
