“In my opinion, I think that if we expand, it gives us the opportunity to geographically realine. I think we could see a lot of wear to our players in terms of travel,” said Manfred. “And I think that our postseason format would be more attractive for entities like ESPN because you would be playing outside the east, out of the West. And that 10 -point schedule where we sometimes lose ourselves in Anaheim, would be two teams on the west coast. That 10 o’clock post that is a problem for us sometimes becomes a real opportunity for our west coast audience.

“I think the owners realize that there is a demand for major league baseball in many big cities. And we have the opportunity to do something good around that.”

Manfred said he hoped that two teams are chosen before retiring in 2029. MLB believes that Nashville, Tennessee and Salt Lake City could be the next cities of expansion, according to USA Today.

Baseball fans were not exactly delighted to listen to Manfred to talk about realignment.

The National League was founded in 1876 and the American League was formed in 1901. The historical aspects of sport is what adds to the beauty of the game.

It is not clear how realignment would look. The former general manager of the MLB, Jim Bowden, floated an idea in May 2023.

He predicted in an article in The Athletic that MLB could move to a format of the East and West Conference “consisting of four geographically aligned divisions each. Four teams per division, 16 teams per conference.”

The Eastern Conference Would Consist of the East Division (Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies), North Division (Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers and Toront Expansion Team, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals) and Southeast Division (Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, Expansion and Tampa Bay Rays).

The Western Conference Would Consist of the Midwest Division (Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Breweers and Minnesota Twins), Southwest Division (Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers), Pacific Coast Division (Colorado Rockies, Rockies Colorado Athletics, Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants), West Division (Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres).
