Peter Mandelson, the United Kingdom ambassador to the United States, believes that the Super Bowl should be retained on the other side of the pond.
Mandelson said last week that he has been pressing since he assumed the role in February for the largest sporting event in the United States to be organized by the United Kingdom
“I have made a great release so that the first Super Bowl outside the United States takes place in Britain,” Mandelson told the Chicago Global Affairs Council on Thursday, according to C-Span.

“I want that Super Bowl in Great Britain. I don’t care when it is carried out, but I want it to be announced during my time as an ambassador. We love it, we love it.”
The public laughed at Mandelson’s comment, but he is not the only one in his country of origin who wants to see the Super Bowl in the United Kingdom.

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has also asked that the Super Bowl be presented in his city, which believes that he would solidify London as the “sports capital of the world.”
“The Super Bowl is really important for us,” Khan said last year. “We have several American football games, and I want it to come here because we want US sports fans in Europe to come to London to see them, not just go to the United States.”

The NFL has been playing regular seasonal games in London since 2007, starting with the first official game held outside North America. Almost two decades later, the League continues its international impulse, which this season includes two games in the famous Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London in October.
Since its creation in 1967, the Super Bowl has always remained in the United States. The event will be reproduced at the Casa de los San Francisco 49ers, the Levi Stadium, in Santa Clara, California, in 2026.

It has also been decided that the Super Bowl Lxi, which will be played in 2027, will take place at the Sofi stadium in Inglewood, California, followed by the Super Bowl LXII at the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta.
