A promising Texas Texas Technician player will have to wait until 2026 to return to the field.
Quinten Joyner, who transferred to the Red Raiders after two years at the USC, suffered a contactless injury during the team’s scrimmage on Saturday. Texas Tech chief coach Joey McGuare confirmed in his podcast what the team feared: Joyner broke his ACL.
Texas Tech, in the number 23 of this preseason, will now be without the man who is expected to work in the lion part in the hauling in the field this year.

Joyner was a four -star recruit that came to California instead of staying in his native Texas, where he had some offers. He scored 478 yards by land with four total touchdowns last season for the Trojans, where he mainly supported Woody Marks.
Going to Texas Tech offered a better opportunity to get game time, while returning closer to home.

But now McGuare will have to focus on Cameron Dickey and J’koby Williams, the other two runners in the depth table that need to take a step instead of Joyner.
“I hate him so much for him, just because of how he has done it in spring, summer and camp,” McGuire said about Joyner. “He has really entered here and has been a professional, and we have asked him to do many things he has not done before … he has really taken it, so he is unfortunate.”

Given the great factor that Joyner was expected to be on the offensive of the Raiders, it will be interesting to see how they are classified a week before the season begins.
Texas Tech is looking to improve its 8-5 record of a year ago under McGuare. The Big 12 does not have a predetermined winner, with Arizona State (No. 11), Kansas State (No. 17) and Iowa State (No. 21) together with Texas Tech in terms of teams in Top 25.
But injuries are a cruel reality for football, and McGuare’s team will have to have a next man mentality after losing Joyner for the year.
