Hyderabad:
Awami Tehreek’s leadership has strongly condemned federal and provincial governments for their failure to protect citizens during recent recent rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, where more than 300 people have lost their lives.
In a joint statement, the central president of Awami Tehreek, the lawyer Rasool Bux Palijo, the lawyer of the secretary general of the center, Saxid Hussain Mahesar, Vice President Sattar Rind, the high level leaders Ismail Khashheli, Mir Basheer Talpur and Noor Nabi Palijo expressed the pain and the indication for the loss of life. He made the government responsible for large -scale human tragedy, accusing it of not providing timely rescue operations and precise information to the public.
The leaders alleged that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) “has swallowed billion rupees in the name of natural disasters”, but did little to rescue or rehabilitate victims. “NDMA has simply counted to the dead instead of providing real assistance,” said the statement.
They also noticed that Sindh is expected to face strong rains, however, neither the Government of Sindh nor the provincial or national disasters management authorities (PDMA/NDMA) have made adequate preparations. “If governments had prioritized to save lives on earning money with disasters, people would have saved huge human and financial losses,” said leaders.
