KARACHI:

Garden Police have solved the mystery behind an attempted shooting and extortion at a local bakery, revealing a plot fueled by a corporate grudge. The former bakery partner was among those arrested.

SHO Garden Zubair Nawaz said there was a report of firing near Usmanabad, so the police reached the spot and investigated the matter. The bakery owner told police he had been receiving threatening extortion calls since December 22.

During the recording of the owner’s full statement, it was revealed that he had some business differences with his former partner, Qamar Shehzad alias Qambri, following which the two parted ways. In a bid for revenge, Qamar Shahzad and a current employee of the bakery, Sher Jan Baloch, made a threatening phone call to the bakery owner and demanded an extortion of five million rupees.

According to SHO Nawaz, the threatening call was made using an international number. They also opened fire outside the bakery when the owner did not relent.

Police intervened on technical grounds and arrested two accused: his ex-partner Qamar Shehzad and employee Sher Jan Baloch. A case was registered against the two.

Police are conducting raids in search of accused Jahangir Baloch, allegedly responsible for making threatening calls. According to the SHO, the arrested accused have been handed over to the Special Investigation Unit for further legal action, which is further investigating the accused.
