Islamabad:
Pakistan, Afghanistan and China committed themselves on Wednesday to strengthen the joint efforts against terrorism, since Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar urged the Taliban regime
The foreign ministers of China and Pakistan traveled to Kabul to attend the trilateral meeting. This was Wang Yi’s first visit to Kabul from the Taliban control of Afghanistan.
Apart from the trilateral meeting, both Dar and Wang held separate bilateral conversations with the Afghan authorities. Chinese Foreign Minister told the interim prime minister, Mullah Akhund, who expected the Taliban government to “pay special attention” to Beijing’s security concerns.
During the meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dar, raised the issue of the presence of TTP, Bla and Majeed brigade on Afghan soil.
“The Vice Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs recognized the encouraging progress in political and commercial ties, while expressing progress in the security domain, especially in the counterterrorism, he continues behind,” said a statement issued by the foreign office in Islamabad.
He highlighted a recent increase in terrorist attacks within Pakistan perpetrated by groups that operate from Afghan soil, urging Afghan authorities to take concrete and verifiable measures against entities such as TTP and Bla/Majeed Brigade. “Afghan Foreign Minister reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to ensure that his territory is not used by any terrorist group against Pakistan or other nations,” according to the statement.
The DAR statement indicated Pakistan’s frustration about the lack of cooperation of the Taliban authorities to address the security problem.
Although the Foreign Minister expressed concerns about the security problem, both ministers expressed their satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral relations between their countries. They welcomed the recent elevation of diplomatic representation between the two countries from the position of matters to the ambassador level, as agreed during the trilateral meeting in Beijing on May 21, 2025.
Later, Dar joined his Chinese and Afghan counterparts to attend the trilateral meeting focused on political, economic and security cooperation.
The three parties promised to strengthen the joint efforts against terrorism. They also reaffirmed their commitment to deepen collaboration in commerce, transit, regional development, health, education, culture and the fight against drug trafficking, as well as the extension of CPEC to Afghanistan, according to the reading of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pakistan’s special representative about Afghanistan in a position on X said that Pakistan, China and Afghanistan agreed to make joint efforts against terrorist groups, including TTP, Bla and ETIM.
Afghan Foreign Minister Muttaqi, in his comments, said the region has great cooperation opportunities in several fields. He expressed confidence that if the three countries focus on mutual trust and practical measures, these opportunities can be fully carried out. According to him, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has turned the economy into the central pillar of its foreign policy, with efforts to transform Afghanistan of a country seen only through the prism of security challenges in a center of regional economic activity.
He also said that Afghanistan, China and Pakistan collectively have immense economic potential. In his opinion, it is essential to take advantage of this potential in a positive and practical way, without linking economic issues with political or other disputes. He stressed that the people of the region aspire to peace and prosperity, which can only be achieved if economic relations have the highest priority.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in his speech, said that China’s relations with Afghanistan are strengthening over time. He stressed that bilateral cooperation is no longer limited to trade, but has expanded to education, health, infrastructure, energy and several other sectors. Wang also expressed the hope that Afghanistan continues in the path of stability and that regional economic corridors open greater opportunities for joint development.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also highlighted the importance of the meeting. He said that trilateral conversations between Afghanistan, China and Pakistan are not only vital to consolidate existing relationships, but also serve as a milestone to pave the path to future progress. Dar expressed optimism that economic and commercial cooperation between the three countries will deepen even more, opening new doors of prosperity for the people of the region.
Meeting participants agreed that the three countries must improve mutual connectivity to translate regional cooperation into tangible results. They also promised joint efforts to eliminate obstacles in the fields of trade and transit so that the region can move towards sustainable development and stability.
This trilateral meeting comes at a time when Afghanistan strives to stabilize its economy and redefine its relations with regional countries. Both China and Pakistan, being the main neighbors of Afghanistan, provide additional weight and importance to this process.
