Islamabad:
PTI leaders welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to grant the bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday in eight cases of May 9, which makes him a milestone in the PTI for Justice’s fight. They promised to continue their political and legal struggle within the constitutional framework.
Going to a press conference in Islamabad, Salman Akram Raja said that the sentence had shown that persistence is worth it and that it was a step towards judicial independence.
“This is an important milestone, but we will continue our fight. The public has now realized that the case of May 9 was based on a false narrative,” he said.
He added that the party was united behind its leadership and any parliamentary decision, including the appointment of opposition leaders, would be taken according to the indications of the founder of PTI.
Latif Khosa described the decision as “a breath of fresh air after a long time.”
He said that article 25 of the Constitution clearly guaranteed equality before the law, and the Supreme Court had correctly confirmed the constitutional supremacy. He argued that only one case could be followed based on May 9, since the same testimonies could not be used repeatedly.
Khosa said in the case of trust of Al-Qadir that the founder of PTI had not obtained any personal benefit.
He also promised that the PTI would continue its struggle to release political prisoners, remembering that “we even expel the military dictator Pervez Musharraf of power.”
Expressing pain for recent events in Karachi and promising full support for communities affected by floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), he said that the party was still committed to public service.
Amir Dogar thanked the Supreme Court for giving a verdict “based on facts”, calling him a message to the forces that had “invented a false narrative of May 9”. He said the ruling marked “one day of victory for the PTI” and the burial of the narratives manufactured.
Salman Akram Raja reiterated that PTI would challenge any adverse decision in the higher courts.
“Those who stole the elections should seek forgiveness, not us, we just ask God for forgiveness,” he said. He said that the party approach remained in ensuring legal relief for its leaders, adding that “our partners such as Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz and Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar will return.”
