Residents of several areas also face water shortage as a result of prolonged energy failures.
A K-Electric spokesman told The Express PAkGazette that the restoration work is underway. “The energy has been restored in most areas. Of the 2,100 feeders, only 40 remain low from now on due to the flood,” said the spokesman.
Citizens blocked the roads and organized demonstrations outside the offices of the public services company at University Road, Tipu Sultan Road, Malir and Liaquat Market, demanding the immediate restoration of power.
In Malir, the blockade on the Mehran deposit route interrupted the operations of the popular bus service, while the protests in Jinnah Avenue and their surrounding areas caused large interruptions of the traffic.
Sindh’s Minister of Energy, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, made a surprise visit to K-Electric headquarters on Thursday, ordering officials to address public complaints urgently.
Schools and universities reopened on Friday after three days of interruption in the routine life caused by record monsors. With the light rain expected today, the government of Sindh did not notify a holiday today.

According to the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD), Karachi received more than 200 millimeters of rain between Tuesday and Thursday, overwhelming the fragile drainage system in the city and causing serious interruptions.

During the week, at least a dozen deaths were reported throughout the city for rain -related incidents, including electrocutions and drowning.
Urban floods had left the underground steps, the main roads and the flooded residential colonies. Commercial activity and transport were seriously interrupted.
The National Disaster Authority had previously warned that rain levels greater than 160 millimeters could overwhelm urban infrastructure.
