The Federal Research Agency (FIA) has developed an artificial intelligence application (AI) to rationalize immigration procedures and stop human smuggling. A pilot project will be launched at Islamabad International Airport.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was informed about the initiative during a meeting at the FIA headquarters in Islamabad, where progress was reviewed in the agency’s modernization agenda.
The general director of the FIA, Riffat Riffat Mukhtar, said that the system driven by AI will relieve the flow of passengers by reducing the queues while improving the agency’s ability to detect trafficking attempts.
Calling the project “A need for the hour”, Naqvi said that he would not only save travelers, but also strengthen Pakistan’s struggle against human smugglers. He announced the immediate launch of funds for IT updates and sought the urgent renewal of the FIA headquarters.
The Interior Minister instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to deliver land for the FIA Academy without delay. Recruitment against all approved vacancies will also begin to address personnel scarcity.
“I will ensure the provision of all the necessary resources, but in return, you will have to offer performance,” the Minister told FIA officials.

The Chief of the FIA also informed the minister that the amendments to the FIA Law had been completed, while the agency’s digital transition progressed with priority. The organization has already moved to an e-agtice system with all official notices that will soon be issued with QR codes to guarantee transparency.
In recent years, FIA has intensified its repression in people trafficking networks.
In October 2023, he also associated with the European Union and the International Center for the Development of Migration Policies (ICMPD) to establish a “Second Line” border control office at Islamabad airport, equipped with forensic tools and advanced IT tools to detect counterfeit documents and monitor smuggling trends.
The launch of the application based on the brand another significant step in Pakistan’s efforts to modernize border management and strengthen institutional capacity against organized traffic networks.
