Islamabad:
The National Committee of Economic Affairs of the Assembly Assembly has proposed to eliminate the project of the Freight Freight corridor of Lyari in the public-private partnership mode (PPP) and include it in the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).
On Friday, the officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) informed the committee that the project was originally completed at a cost of RS68 billion, but the delays have led to the cost climbing.
They said that the Lyari highway runs along both sides of the Lyari River, and the plan was to divert heavy traffic from the highway to this corridor. The purpose of the corridor was to provide a separate road for heavy traffic.
A committee member, Javed Hanif Khan, questioned whether the Lyari high cargo corridor project had been withdrawn.
He asked why the projects for Karachi and Sindh always passed under the PPP mode. He said that heavy traffic enters Karachi even during the day, so this project began.
“It was only a 15–16 km runner project, but it has retired. NHA officials said they had consulted the Sindh government, but the project had not retired in the suggested way.
The Committee proposed to change the PPP mode project to the PSDP and also directed that a position document would be presented on the project before August 26.
