India alert Pakistan about the next flood threats

India, making his first important contact with Pakistan from Alto El Fuego in May, warned Pakistan of future floods. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “India communicated flood warnings through diplomatic channels.”

The FO in his statement said on Monday that India decided to communicate his warning through diplomatic channels instead of the Indo Aguas Commission as required under the Treaty of the Water of the Indus.

This warning had led to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab to issue a flood warning, ordering the district administrations to activate the early monitoring and warning systems.

In May, an attack that led to the death of 26 people in Pahalgama, led to the sour of relations between the two states. India accused Pakistan without the basis of orchestrating the attack and, as a result, suspended the Treaty of the Water of the Indo. Although the treaty does not allow any disposition for the suspension, India declared that “it will keep the treaty in suspense until Pakistan is credible and irrevocable its support for cross -border terrorism.”

Pakistan’s position has been to remember India that such a disposition is not provided in the treaty so that any part is suspended unilaterally. Pakistan had taken this matter to the Court of The Hague and appealed. Pakistan received a great victory since the Permanent Court of Arbitration in June issued a supplementary award in the IWT case, in favor of Pakistan.

Pakistan, subsequently, asked India to defend the Treaty to the Water of the Indo and faithfully honor her treaty obligations.

This warning occurs after Pakistan has witnessed one of its most mortal monsoon rains, with a number of 800 dead.
