American Insurer Group Farmers Insurance has confirmed that he was recently a victim of a third -party cyber attack that saw him lose confidential data about more than one million people.
A letter of data violation sent to the states of affected individuals that the company was alerted to the attack on May 30, 2025, when one of its third -party suppliers saw unauthorized access to one of its databases.
The subsequent research, which concluded almost two months later, determined that the unidentified threat actors stole names, birth dates, driver’s license numbers and the last four digits of Social Security numbers (SSN), for exactly 1,071,172 people.
Not all systems are affected in the same way
Service of mostly individuals and small businesses, Farmers Insurance is part of the Zurich insurance group, and last year reported $ 2.2 billion in profits.
It also has and operates multiple insurance companies, each focused on different markets, including 21st century insurance, farmers of the new world life insurance company, the financial solutions of farmers, the main insurance and Bristol West insurance.
The last two were also beaten, and others also possibly affected, as the letter says: “Some of the brands include Foremos and Bristol West.”
The main insurance specializes in specialized lines, including mobile houses, manufactured houses, motorcycles, ships, recreational vehicles, off -road vehicles and even things such as owner/rental insurance.
Bristol West, on the other hand, covers car insurance, particularly for people who could not qualify for standard policies due to a driving, credit or other risk factors.
At the time of publication, there are no threat actors that the actors are still assumed by the attack, and the farmers did not see the data abused anywhere in nature.
However, it does urges its clients to remain attentive and be very careful with incoming emails and other communications that claim that they come from the company. In addition, it offers the victims two years of identity theft protection services, without charge.
