A Tennessee man who shares the same name as the legend of MLB, Babe Ruth, has been federally accused after he allegedly used the names of hundreds of dead baseball players or former professionals in a high reach scheme.
George Herman Ruth faces 91 charges in an accusation transmitted in the United States District Court in Greeneville, Tennessee, on August 12, announced the office of the United States prosecutor. The suspicious allegedly invoked the name of Ruth and the identities of other former baseball players in false claims of payments in the class action agreements, prosecutors said.
The 69 -year -old Morristown man is accused of fraud by mail, aggravated identity robbery, fraudulent use of social security numbers, money laundering, false statements to his probation officer and possessing firearms after having been previously convicted of serious crimes.

According to the accusation, Ruth obtained or tried to obtain more than $ 550,000 through the scheme. He looked for payments in demand agreements ranging from accusations of contact lens prices to racial discrimination claims against a personnel agency, the presentation said.

Ruth opened more than a dozen PO boxes in several cities of Tennessee for him and for false companies. Then he presented hundreds of fraudulent claims forms to class action administrators throughout the country, according to the complaint.

He used the names of old baseball players or variations of his own name, along with the social security numbers of unknown victims, prosecutors said.
The names of the players that Ruth pretended did not appear in the accusation. A public defender who represents him declined to comment on the positions.

Ruth has associated with identity theft in the past. He previously declared himself guilty in a federal court in Indiana of a scheme to commit social security fraud. In 2020, he was sentenced to prison before going to probation from October 2023 to July 2025, as shown in the judicial records.
