As the country’s policy takes new turns and turns, Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), Barríster, Gohar Ali Khan, on Thursday resigned to four permanent committees of the National Assembly in line with the directions of the founder of the party, Imran Khan.
The president of PTI left four key committees in the Chamber of Representatives of Parliament. I was serving in the Law and Justice Committees, Human Rights, Information Technology and Commercial Advice of the Chamber.
At least 18 PTI legislators, including lawyer Gohar, have renounced NA bodies so far.
The measure is produced as part of the political strategy of the former ruling party, which also includes boycotting the next partial elections scheduled for the coming months.
PTI legislators began to leave NA committees after the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) in July and August they disqualified a large number of PTI leaders for their alleged participation in the disturbances of May 9, 2023.
In addition to the lawyer Gohaha, PTI Faisal Legislator Amin Gandapur, brother of KP’s prime minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, Shaharyar Afidi, Junaid Akbar Khan, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Amir Dugar and others have presented their resignations of Na bodies.
Mnas Ali Asghar, Sajid Khan, Shahid Khattak, Faisal and Asif Khan presented their resignations of several Na committees yesterday.
Asghar resigned from the cabinet, privatization and planning committees, while Sajid Khan resigned abroad, national heritage and Committees related to Kashmir, declaring that he would even vacate his seat of the Assembly if Khan instructs him.
Faisal left the Committees of Economic Affairs, Food Security and the Parliamentary Working Group.
Khattak announced that he was retiring from all permanent committees, while Asif renounced education, national heritage, culture and information and transmission committees.
Separately, Junaid resigned from his position as president of the Public Accounts Committee, presenting his resignation to the Chief of the Party Whip, to tell, in line with the directive of the PTI political committee. Party sources confirmed that the president of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, has received the resignations of Faisal and Ali.
PTI spokesman, Sheikh Waqas also renounced all the permanent committees of NA. He sent his resignation to Na Sadiq’s speaker a day before.
Meanwhile, Imran also instructed PTI leaders to renounce the Judicial Commission, qualifying the participation of the party in it as ineffective, the sources said.
The lawyer Gohar and Senator Ali Zafar are part of the commission.
The PTI had also announced that it will boycott the next partial elections in the constituencies of the disqualified party members in the cases of May 9, declaring those people their “true representatives.”
Several electorals are at stake since the ECP recently disqualified several legislators who belong to the PTI after their convictions in cases related to the disturbances of May 9.
The ruling allies, the Pakistan-Nawaz Muslim League (PML-N) and the Peoples Party of Pakistan (PPP), had announced that they would jointly play the next partial elections throughout the country.
