Islamabad:
The legislators of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) have launched a massive resignation campaign of the permanent committees of the National Assembly, in line with the directive of the founder of the Imran Khan party.
The president of the PTI, the lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, presented 18 resignations to the speaker’s office, marking the large -scale retreats of the opposition legislators of the parliamentary committees.
Barrimer Gohar himself resigned from four key committees: Law and Justice, Human Rights, Information Technology and the Business Advisory Committee of the House of Representatives. He also presented resignations on behalf of other members of PTI.
Those who renounced the presidency and memberships include Junaid Akbar, Sahibzada Saifullah, Mahbob Shah, Shahzada Gustasab, Ali Jadoon, Mujahid Ali, Malik Anwar Taj, Fazal Muhammad Khan, Sojid Khan, Arbab Ayub, Asif Khan, Sheikh Waqes Sahi, Malik Amir, Malik Amir Amir Amir Dogar, Shabbir Ali Qureshi and Awais Jhakkar.
The main leaders of PTI Shehryar Afidi, Mobeen Arif Jatt, Usama Mala and Sher Afzal Marwat also presented their resignations. Aphridi resigned from two committees, while Mobeen Jatt resigned from the Commerce, Finance and Industries Committees.
Previously, Junaid Akbar resigned from his position as president of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), while PTI Sheikh Waqas Akram resigned from PAC and the Information Committee.
Confirming his decision about X, Akram declared: “Following the instructions of our leader Imran Khan, I presented my resignation this morning of the Public Accounts Committee and the Information Committee.”
Similarly, Malik Amir Dogar, in his renunciation note published in X, declared an unwavering loyalty to Imran Khan: “Therefore, I renounce the permanent committees of the National Assembly according to the directive of my leader Imran Khan. The only purpose of my policy is to carry out his mission: the true independence of the Pakistan and the service of the people.”
Party experts confirmed that all resignations were presented to the National Assembly Secretariat after consulting PTI’s leadership.
The directive for mass resignations occurs after the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) disqualified several PTI leaders after their conviction in cases linked to the disturbances of May 9.
Observers say that the wave of resignations is expected to significantly affect the operation and performance of the parliamentary committees.
