Pakistan’s heritage day was first marked in Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the Mayor of New York City.
The ceremony was attended by the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, senior city officials and state, diplomats, political leaders and a large number of members of the Pakistani-American community. The permanent representative of Pakistan before the United Nations, the ambassador to Iftikhar Ahmad, and the general consul of Pakistan in New York, Aamer Ahmed Atozai, represented Pakistan on the occasion. A moment of silence was observed for victims of recent flooding in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Ahmad congratulated the community for the 78th Independence Day of Pakistan and praised his role in strengthening relations between Pakistan and the United States. He reiterated that Pakistan was totally able to defend his sovereignty as he continued working for peace, progress and international cooperation.

The Consul General Atozai thanked Mayor Adams for recognizing the contributions of the Pakistani-American community. He said that Pakistan’s inheritance was not only rooted in the independence of 1947 but also in his former civilizations, pluralistic traditions and cultural wealth.
Mayor Adams, in his comments, congratulated the American Pakistani community on Pakistan’s independence day and praised his contributions to the social, cultural and economic fabric of the city. The event concluded with expressions of gratitude to the Office of International Affairs of the Mayor, led by Commissioner Aissata Camara, and a reaffirmation of lasting friendship between Pakistan and the United States.
