NDMA warns about floods in the beds of the Sindh River

Islamabad:

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warned about possible floods in the areas of the Sindh rivers bed after strong floods in the three eastern rivers.

According to NDMA, from 900,000 to 950,000 cusecs of water will pass the heads of Panjnad between September 3 and 4. Water flows can decrease between 825,000 and 900,000 CUSEC in case the embankments are violated to divert the heights to avoid extreme damage.

The official statement of the NDMA said that Guddu Barge will see water flows ranging from 800,000 to 1.1 million Cusec between September 5 and 6, with the lowest range between 750,000 and 900,000 cusecs if the embankments are violated.

In Sukkur Barge, water flows are expected from 800,000 to 1.1 million CUSECs between September 6 and 7, while Kotri Barge is likely to witness the flows of between 800,000 and one million Cusecs from September 8 to 9.

According to NDMA, the total flow could reach up to 1.2 million CUSECs, potentially creating a stage of flooding of an extremely high level for the river bed communities and the low areas of Sindh from September 12 to 13.

The authority also warned that the waters of the floods could damage the agricultural land, the nearby settlements, the villages and infrastructure. Therefore, the authorities have been ordered to take immediate preventive measures.

“Without a doubt, the RĂos bed areas in Sindh will be affected, as we have seen a sudden increase in water levels in the Punjab rivers,” said Shoro, and added that the river communities will be informed about the expected water flow at least two days before Guddu Barge arrives.
