- Microsoft says that mobile plans are closed from February 2026
- A “more integrated experience” is approaching through Windows configuration
- Operators must update their websites to admit the new Windows system
Microsoft has confirmed plans to finish support for mobile plans from February 27, 2026, with the application that will be removed from Windows and the Microsoft store with immediate effect.
The company explained in a blog post that wants: “Simplify how it connects its PC to mobile data,” and added that users can still link mobile networks in the future, but not through the application that will soon be deposited.
After change, users can buy and manage cell plans through the browser and the Windows configuration application.
You can still use cellular data
In the future, Microsoft has promised a “more integrated experience” in the future without the need for additional applications: “only a direct link between Windows and the website of its mobile operator.”
Once users buy and activate data plans on the website of their operator, the Windows configuration will help them share devices such as EID and IMEI identifiers safely with operators, which can automatically provide esim without required codes or QRS.
Windows experts can already use this function today, but the public launch will not reach the last half of 2025.
For those who have already connected their PC to a mobile network in the old form, existing connections will continue to function as normal. But instead of managing them through the mobile plans interface, users must use the website of their operator.
Microsoft promises to update its documentation before the change for an updated guide.
Although the experience involves little more than a renewed interface for end users, operators can be a bit slower to respond. The company explained that operators must adapt their systems to add the option to start the Windows activation flow (to share device identifiers).
They will have Microsoft guidance, but that does not mean that they will act immediately, or at all.
“Select Partners” had already joined a test and feedback group in June 2025. Techradar Pro He asked Microsoft to confirm who they are, but we do not receive an immediate response.
Meanwhile, however, the Mobile Plans application continues to work, so if you are not sure if your carrier is likely to admit the new Microsoft system immediately, better to solve things now.
