PM raises the problem of the Indo Water Treaty in SCO

Tianjin:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif used his presence in the Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) of the State Chiefs Contest to offer a high range speech, raising the problem of the Indo Water Treaty (IWT) and asking for a dialogue over all pending disputes.

Shehbaz told the Leaders of the Euroasy Block of 10 members, including India, which Pakistan remained committed to peace, dialogue and regional integration, but emphasized that their rights under international treaties and their sacrifices against terrorism must be respected.

“Uninterrupted access to due participation of water according to the existing treaties between the OCS members will strengthen the SCO to function without problems and support the achievement of broader objectives for which the SCO was established,” said Shehbaz, referring to the unilateral movement of India to suspend the IWT in April.

Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s preference for diplomacy on confrontation. “We respect all international and bilateral treaties and hope that all SCO members will follow similar principles,” he said. Asked leaders to support a “comprehensive and structural dialogue” to solve disputes

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to “normal and stable relations with all his neighbors,” highlighting dialogue and diplomacy as guiding principles. “Pakistan has always believed in the power of multilateralism, dialogue and diplomacy, and avoid unilateralism,” he said.

When reassuring the block, he added: “Pakistan supports and respects the sovereignty and integrity of all members of the OCs and their neighbors. We will continue our efforts to promote progress and prosperity throughout the region and guarantee a lasting peace in southern Asia.”

Global leadership needs to assume the load, since an additional inaction will lead to a greater loss of life and livelihoods.”

In this regard, he said, the Chinese-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC) presented a practical demonstration of the vision of SCO integration.
