Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, who recently stated that the third season will be the series’ last, confirmed that Netflix has big plans for the franchise.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, director, writer and executive producer of the series, hinted at a spin-off in the future, while speaking with The wrapper.
“I know Netflix has a plan,” Hwang said, adding that the streaming giant is “not going to scrap this idea.”
“Though one thing is certainly clear,” the creator said, assuring, “season 3 is not going to be the end of the ‘Squid Game’ universe.”
Previously, the showrunner during an interview with AP Newssaid that the upcoming third season will see a time jump.
“Season 3 of The Squid Game will take place 10 to 20 years in the future. “It will be darker and sadder, but at the same time it will also be quite fun,” he said.
The producer also told the outlet that the third season was already in the works simultaneously with the second.
According to him, the next season is in the post-production stage and will premiere in 2025.
