- Gigabyte has launched the external GPU AORUS RTX 5090 AI Box, created for AI tasks and portable games
- It will have Thunderbolt 5 and USB 4 ports
- The price is not yet announced
Nvidia is not decreasing with its alignment of the RTX 5000 series, with RTX 5000 Super Series GPU, it is rumored that this fall will be launched, which surely adds to the list of the best GPU in the market, and now, one of the members of the Green team has taken advantage of the Blackwell flagship and portable games.
As reported by our friends on PC Gamer, Gigabyte has launched the external GPU aorus rtx 5090, which is now known as ‘AI box’, aimed at creativity with more than 3,000 AI Tops. This can be used on laptops and other portable PCs (even hand) through its Thunderbolt 5 and USB 4 ports, increasing performance for games and AI significantly.
For PC players, this is possibly exaggerated, since a laptop RTX 5080 or RTX 5070 GPU is more than enough to obtain large performance results in several titles; After having previously reviewed the MSI Vector A18 HX A9W and currently testing an MSI system with RTX 5070 engine, I can safely say that they are everything you need for great performance on a laptop of games.
Now, it is worth noting that this is an EGPU built to empower AI-AI intensive stages, and has its own liquid cooling configuration within a mini chassis, which could make it a double take because it could easily pass as a mini -it desktop construction. Anyway, the registered trademark GeForce RTX of Nvidia will always call the attention of PC players, and this is an EGPU that is very likely not to need.
The price is not yet announced, but it can certainly expect this to cost more than the discreet counterpart of RTX 5090 desktop and other PCs of preconstructed play completely. The external low -end GPUs are already expensive, so it is only reasonable that prices shoot when they use the best market GPU.
ANALYSIS: You better buy a desktop platform or a laptop for games in place
Unless you already have a game power or a professional laptop for creativity, or have space to waste, I would not suggest buying this. I have been curious about EGPU for a while, specifically with how they would affect the performance of the PC for hand games, but certainly not with an RTX 5090.
I can see how this can be a good alternative to travel with a desktop platform; The enclosure is essentially a mini -it case, so it is much more portable, and seems to be less prone to damage when you have your suitcase in the conveyor belts. On the other hand, a small laptop of games is the perfect response to that, and if you need the power of AI RTX 5090, you could buy a desktop platform.
An excellent example would be the Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 [2025] I tried, with its thin 14 -inch screen and its light construction, fed by the RTX 5070 TI. It is excellent for games and intensive tasks, and a price of £ 2,699 / au $ 4,999, it will surely be cheaper than the new Gigabyte box.
There are many ways to get the best out of AI and games through the Blackwell alignment of Nvidia, but I don’t think the Aorus RTX 5090 AI box is one of them, at least considering what I hope it costs.
