After some teasers on its social channels, Apple TV Plus confirmed via Instagram (see post below) that a free weekend of streaming is fast approaching. So if you want to see something Ted Lasso, Contractionor get caught in Rupture but you don’t want to sign up (either as a new or returning customer) for Apple TV Plus, this is your chance to watch anything from its entire library for free.
From January 4-5, 2025, likely a full 48-hour event, you’ll be able to stream any of Apple TV Plus’ original TV shows, movies, and documentaries for free. Not only will it happen shortly after the holiday season and just four days into 2025, but it will also happen right before the highly anticipated Season 2 of Rupture begins airing on January 17, 2025.
Additionally, considering that the trailers and formal announcement of the free weekend feature characters from the show, the timing of this free weekend is probably no coincidence. It could serve to generate excitement around the show’s return and even encourage people who haven’t ventured into the halls of ‘Lumen’ to do so without needing to subscribe.
While free weekends for streaming services are not unheard of, this is a first for Apple TV Plus. The streaming service typically offers a free Apple TV Plus trial of about seven days, but that requires registration. And the timing comes ahead of the return of a major series and at a time when there’s plenty of great content to watch on Apple TV Plus.
There’s a lot to see in the service, including mythical quest, Schmigadoon!, The morning program, Ted Lasso, slow horsesand For all humanity, among many others. While you can find Apple TV Plus’ vast library of content within the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and the Apple TV 4K streaming box, it’s also available on other devices and even on the web. Most major streaming operating systems, including Roku, Google TV, and FireOS, offer the Apple TV app for easy streaming, and it’s also built into Samsung and LG TVs.
The Apple TV Plus free streaming weekend will begin on January 4, 2025 and end at the end of January 5, 2025. And while we don’t yet know if it’s available in the UK, Australia, and all countries where the service is available, we’ve reached out to Apple to ask and will update this story if we hear back.
