The PML-N candidate, Rana Sanaullah, has been chosen senator of Punjab’s seat in a partial choice, ensuring 250 votes. A total of 251 votes were issued, with one rejected, according to unofficial results.
The election appeared unilateral after Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) boycott the electoral process, warning their members to participate would go against the party’s policy.
The opposition had presented Salma Ijaz, wife of former PTI leader, Ejaz Chaudhry.
The seat was vacant after Chaudhry’s disqualification after an anti -terrorism court sentenced him to 10 years in prison for the riot cases of May 9.

On September 8, the Superior Court of Lahore, while listening to a statement presented on behalf of Ejaz Chaudhry, challenging its disqualification and the issuance of the electoral schedule by the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP), ordered that “the additional process in the search for the contested notification can continue, however, its feast should be subject to the result of this request.”
Rana Sanoullah had previously played the general elections of February 8 of Faisalabad, but did not win a seat in the National Assembly.
He served as Interior Minister during the last government of the Democratic Movement of Pakistan (PDM) and also celebrated the portfolio of the Law Minister twice under Shehbaz Sharif as the main minister of Punjab.
