Conor McGregor is making an impulse to run for president of Ireland, and apparently Elon Musk is behind him.
The UFC fighter wrote in March that he would run for a position and implored people to sign a petition last month to “ensure” that he is on the electoral ballot.
According to Irish News, however, the country’s prime minister, Simon Harris, ordered his councilors of the Fine Gael party to block independent candidates as McGregor to be nominated.

The news caught Elon Musk’s attention in X, and was not happy.
“What a shame of Simon Harris for tyranically blocking the will of the people of Ireland!” Musk posted in X.
Musk then fell as close to support as he could have done.
“Conor McGregor for President Salve to Ireland,” he said.
McGregor and Musk were on facetime among themselves earlier this week.
McGregor published an online petition last month, citing regulations that “demand that a candidate must ensure nominations of twenty members of the oireachtas or four tips from the county to be eligible for the vote.”
“This system, although it is intended to guarantee a certain degree of political influence among the candidates, inadvertently restricts the direct voice of the Irish electorate,” McGregor said.

The multitimitas champion has opposed a bill regarding the EU migration pact.
“Ireland must completely implement the EU migration pact before June 12, 2026. “It is the people of the choice of Ireland! That is a true democracy! … This is the future of Ireland with me as president. All the citizens of Ireland have a voice and a choice in their future! God bless our people. Vote McGregor and listen to your voice!”
McGregor criticized the Irish government in the White House in an attempt to raise awareness about “the problems facing the people of Ireland.”
Last September, he made fun of a possible presidential career in Ireland, calling himself the “only logical choice.” He officially announced his campaign shortly after visiting President Donald Trump in the White House.

McGregor has not fought since his leg was broken against Dustin Poirier in 2021. He was supposed to return last year, but an injury to his feet kept him out of the octagon. Since then he has said that he would only return in a stadium, but showed interest in the UFC event at the White House next year.
