Rawalpindi:
A sudden outbreak of conjunctivitis has affected the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, impacting a large number of children, women and older residents, many of whom have sought treatment in hospitals. The increase in cases has also led to a greater demand for rose water in the area.
In the last three days, 2,186 patients suffering from conjunctivitis visited the three main public hospitals: Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto General Hospital and the Hospital of the District headquarters, where they received rapid medical care. Private hospitals and clinics have similarly informed a significant influx of patients.
According to the attached medical superintendent Dr. Inayat, this is the second outbreak of conjunctivitis in the city within the first nine months of the year.
He advised that, in order to prevent infection, the eyes should be washed daily with clean water, water should be allowed gently to spit in the eyes and glasses with black or green dye should be used. Small ice cubes can be applied to the eyes to relieve discomfort, and medical consultations should be sought immediately in severe pain cases.
