- Minister MS-S1 Max introduces frame compatibility in the mini compact pc category
- 256 GB/s memory bandwidth supports the management of workloads of extremely large locally
- Dual LAN ports of 10 Gigabit provide a unusual network speed in compact systems
Minister has presented the MS-S1 Max, a new system that joins the growing list of products built around the AMD Strix Halo platform.
This device is a high-end option for professionals, admitted by the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor along with up to 128 GB of LPDDR5x-8000 memory.
The memory is executed in quadruple channel mode with a bandwidth classified at 256 GB/s, a sufficient figure for intensive work loads, such as executing large language models with more than 100 billion parameters locally.
A mini pc designed for desktop and shelf
According to the company, the MS-S1 Max “scale from the desk to the rack 2u”.
This phrase leaves some ambiguity, since it is not clear if different cases of cases will be offered, or if the desktop has been sized to slide directly to a shelf without alteration.
In any case, the form factor is atypical for a mini PC, blurring the lines between the use of compact desktop and the adaptability of the data center.
The MS-S1 Max incorporates a PCIE X16 slot inside the chassis, opening the door to discrete graphics cards or other expansion hardware.
This is a clear difference of many compact systems that lack internal update routes.
The rear I/O includes a USB4V2-C port with 80 Gbps yield and a USB-PD output of 15 w, two USB4 type-C ports additional to 40 Gbps, four USB-A non-specified ports, dual dual of 10 gigabit and an HDMI output.
In the front, two USB-C ports, a USB-A port, a connector for headphones and dual microphones are present.
Wireless connectivity extends to Wifi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, which reflects current generation standards.
Instead of trusting an external brick, this commercial PC integrates an internal 320W internal source.
This choice simplifies the assembly of the grid and reduces disorder when used as a desktop.
There is no information about your cooling system, but taking into account your size, you must adjust to one for sustained work loads.
For work station tasks involving inference of AI models, video or multitasking representation, said configuration can be advantageous if the thermal design is sufficient.
The company has not provided prices or availability for the MS-S1 Max. Without those details, it is still difficult to judge how convincing this mini PC will be compared with rival offers.
