The new Cosmic Orange 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max of Apple was not a complete surprise in Tuesday’s astonishment event; Many leaks hinted at the left -color turn. Even so, the vibrant tone marks a true deviation from the most out of the previous phones of the iPhone Pro alignment.
In a conversation with the Chief of Global Marketing of Apple, Greg Joswiak, and the senior vice president of the company’s hardware engineering, John Ternus (together with the global editor of Tom Guide Guide in Chief Mark Spaonauer), the couple of executives said that the new colors are, in part, a direct product of the titanium change in the last set of Anodized aluminum.

It is a lighter and energy efficiency material that, through anodization, is compatible with a broader color range.
“For years, we have had professional customers who say: ‘Hello, the other part of the line gets all the fun colors and we do not,'” explained Joswiak, “and it’s like, ‘it’s fine, you want a fun color, how about the cosmic orange, baby’.”
This makes sense, since I have also heard some Apple consumers complain that the line color options are boring. Orange is decidedly unwavering. On the other hand, many have noticed the loss of an iconic professional color that, on the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Cosmic Orange seems to have replaced: black or black. I asked Joswiak and Ternus: “When did Orange become the new black?”
“We have had different tones of darkness for years. We know that people want a darkness,” Joswiak told me: “We have deep blue, it’s beautiful.”
Joswiak added that he believes that the shadow is “fantastic.” He reminded me that classic money is still an option. “We believe we have the bases covered there, and we feel very good with that.”
While Ternus and Joswiak would not go into great detail about the color options, Joswiak recalled his reaction when Apple’s “best design people” revealed the new colors for the first time. “They showed us these, and we are like, yes, it’s incredible.”
And yes, Ternus carries an iPhone 17 Pro Max in Orange Cosmic. It seems that pumpkin spice has a new autumn orange competition.
